DUNLAP, Tenn. - A scary moment became a triumphant one for the Sequatchie County Lady Indians on Monday as they squeezed past Upperman 1-0 in the teams' Region 4-AA softball semifinal.

Sequatchie (21-12) will host DeKalb County on Wednesday for the region championship at 6 p.m EDT. DeKalb edged Bledsoe County 5-4 at Smithville.

This marked the third consecutive year the Lady Indians had faced Upperman and pitcher Kristen Hull in the region tournament - in the final in 2012 and in a semifinal last year - and had yet to score until Monday.

It happened in the second inning, beginning with Katelynne Cheatham being beaned by Hull. She was able to stay in the game and moved to second on a wild pitch, was bunted to third by Allyson Davenport and scored on Amber Kilgore's sacrifice fly.

Emily Yell earned the pitching win for the Lady Indians, but not without a battle. Upperman outhit the home team 8-3.

Sequatchie coach Kelly Somerville said Yell was helped tremendously by her defense. With a runner on second base and two out in the fifth, center fielder Madi Presto threw the tying run out at home on what Somerville said was not a close play. With runners on third and second with two out in the sixth, second baseman Davenport snared a line drive.

"That was a big, big play," Somerville said. "That definitely would've at least tied it up."
