Outdoor Chattanooga and the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will team up again this year to offer free, monthly bike tours through Chickamauga Battlefield, beginning Saturday, May 17.

Participants are invited to bring their bicycles to join in the leisurely paced, historical rides, which last about two hours. National Park Service rangers will talk about the history of the battlefield while Outdoor Chattanooga staff and volunteers provide ride leadership and support.

Loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga mobile bicycle fleet will be available at no charge for riders who are at least 5 feet tall, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. Reservations for these bicycles are required. Contact the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 706-866-9241.

Additional Saturday battlefield bicycle tours are scheduled June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 20, and Oct. 18. The monthly tours begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, 3370 LaFayette Road.

Ride length is three to four miles on flat to moderately hilly terrain. The rides are appropriate for adults and accompanied children ages 8 and older. All participants are required to wear helmets.
