Bicyclist says struck by car

A local bicyclist said the driver of a blue Chevrolet Camaro struck him and then fled while he was riding in Ooltewah last week.

The victim ran off the road in the 4300 block of Green Shanty Road on May 6 because of the impact and suffered minor injuries, including a broken nose.

The vehicle had silver stripes on the side and Tennessee tags, the victim told deputies.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the traffic division of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at 893-3503.

Theft, forgery charges filed

A man was booked Wednesday on charges of theft and forgery after he deposited a fraudulent $945 check in January.

Tyrell Bell, 19, cashed the check at a SunTrust Bank ATM on East 48th Street.

On Jan. 10, a woman reported to Chattanooga police that an unknown person had taken a book of checks that was scheduled to be delivered to her house and that someone had signed her name to one of the checks and cashed it at a bank.

A security worker at the bank provided a copy of the check and pictures of the suspect making the transaction.

Sex offender facing charges

David Glenn Shelkofsky, 60, a registered sex offender since his 1999 conviction for aggravated child molestation in Ringgold, Ga., had been seen at Coolidge Park recently by authorities on at least four occasions, the last being last Saturday, where he was observed watching children, including a young female in a bathing suit, about 1 p.m.

Additionally, while conducting an investigation into Shelkofsky on Tuesday, police discovered that although he was registered as being homeless, Shelkofsky had been living at the Chattanooga Inn on East 23rd Street since April 1. Shelkofsky is required to notify police within 48 hours of a residency change, and had last registered as homeless with the registry on May 7.

Shelkofsky was arrested Tuesday for violating the state’s sex offender registry laws, and his bond is set at $750,000.

Two charged in assault

Two Chattanooga women are facing charges in connection with the assault of another woman.

Police booked Amanda Wynn, 25, and Talisha Thompson, 26, on Wednesday, four days after a woman with visible injuries reported to police that Thompson and Wynn beat her and took her wallet.

The victim described the incident to police from Parkridge Medical Center where she was being treated for cuts on her face and a swollen eye. She said the incident occurred at 3700 Calhoun Ave.., which is near the intersection of Rossville Boulevard and East 37th Street.

Both Thompson and Wynn have lengthy criminal records.
