Baylor girls return to state

For the second time this season, the Baylor girls' tennis team enjoyed its last home match of 2014. And for the second time this season, the Lady Red Raiders went out with a win.

They cruised to a 4-0 victory over St. Agnes in a Division II-AA state quarterfinal match that was finished in an hour and a half. The win advanced Baylor (13-1) to its fifth consecutive state tournament - the last three of which it won.

Baylor's Harper Caswell, Maggie Crumbliss and Drew Hawkins won in singles after Harper Caswell with Crumbliss and Samantha Caswell with McCall Morgan had doubles wins. Hawkins and Grace Petty were ahead in their doubles match when they were pulled.

Samantha Caswell, Morgan and Ashton Jenne were each up a set in singles when the match was called.

"It's an important match, because if you lose you don't go to Murfreesboro," Baylor coach Dustin Kane said. "There's a lot on the line, so we just had to make sure we were focused on this match and not looking into the future, but to make sure we got things done here. The girls came out, executed and we got the match done."

• The Cleveland boys lost 4-1 to Siegel in a Division I Class AAA sectional. Shivang Patel had Cleveland's win at No. 3 singles.
