In a long-anticipated Region 3-A baseball meeting of old rivals, Boyd-Buchanan posted a 6-1 victory Thursday night at South Pittsburg to claim the right to host a sectional game today.

The Buccaneers (27-9) will play Region 4-A runner-up Jackson County at 5 p.m., while South Pittsburg (24-11) will travel to 4-A champion Goodpasture Christian.

Unbeaten Bucs pitcher Brandon Willingham struck out 11 in his ninth victory of the season. Nathan Murrell had two doubles and two RBIs and Cade Evans was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

In Class AAA, Soddy-Daisy dropped to 21-17 in an 8-4 loss at Cookeville. The Trojans will travel today to play at Murfreesboro Riverdale.

Hixson (22-12) is still awaiting an opponent and game time for its sectional game, which will be played Saturday. The Wildcats will be going to either Murfreesboro Central or DeKalb County, whichever wins Region 4-AA.

In Division II-AA baseball, McCallie split a playoff doubleheader with Briarcrest in West Tennessee. Briarcrest won the first game 7-0, but the Blue Tornado rebounded to win the second game 12-2 and force a deciding game today at 5 p.m.

In the second game, Ethan Cady and Winston Whitener each had two hits for McCallie, and Drew Vaughn had three RBIs. John Hennen and Thomas Boals each added a pair of RBIs in the McCallie win, and Spencer Morgan picked up the pitching victory.
