Soccer Baylor Red Raiders reach state semis

Rafael Gaglianone scored off a free kick in the 29th minute and off another in the 61st minute as Baylor School beat St. Benedict 2-0 in Memphis in a Division II-AA state soccer quarterfinal Friday.

That sends the Red Raiders (13-4-1) to Murfreesboro for the classification's final four at Spring Fling next week. Montgomery Bell Academy beat McCallie 4-0 in another quarterfinal, ending the Blue Tornado's season at 9-5-3.

Baylor took eight shots on goal to two for St. Benedict, and Red Raiders coach Curtis Blair cited Tim Linke, Alex Tyler, Tomas Arciniega, Sam Stewart and Hunter Tyler as standouts besides Gaglianone.

"I am very proud of my boys. They did a great job of traveling to Memphis and making this a business trip," Blair said in an emailed report. "We had one task at hand and accomplished it.

"We defended very well all game. This was a total team effort."
