Baylor's McHugh, Kaliszak lead U.S. and other sports news

Baylor Swim Club member Sam McHugh ranked first nationally among 18-year-olds in three events and third or fourth in four others for the 2013-14 short-course competitive season, and teammate Lucas Kaliczak was No. 1 in the age group in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 46.4 seconds. McHugh was fourth in that event at 47.7 and first in the 500 freestyle at 4:16.7, the 1000 free at 8:53.6 and the 200 butterfly at 1:43.2. He was third in the 200 individual medley at 1:46.2 and fourth in the 400 IM at 3:45.4 and the 200 back at 1:42.7. Among 16-year-old boys, Baylor's Christian Selby was 10th in the 100 free and Mathias Porter was 14th in the 200 breaststroke. This is the fifth time in 10 years that a Baylor Swim Club member has been a national short-course age-group leader.

Softball

• Former Chattanooga State standouts Lacye Walker and Andrea Dalton were instrumental in Armstrong Atlantic State's best-of-three NCAA Division II super regional win this past weekend at second-ranked North Georgia. Dalton homered in the fourth inning and Walker was 2-for-4 with an eighth-inning homer in the 19th-ranked Pirates' 3-2 win Friday, and Dalton was 2-for-5 with three RBIs in the decisive 12-10 victory Saturday, after a 7-5 loss in which Dalton singled in Walker for AASU (35-13). Walker, a Grace Academy graduate, leads the Peach Belt Conference with a .442 batting average and 54 RBIs, and she also has 15 homers and 13 doubles; Dalton is hitting .283 with 10 homers.

• Heritage High School infielder Kaitlin Pritchett, whose decision to play softball for Carson-Newman was reported last fall, was announced officially last week as one of six Lady Eagles signees. "Strong kid with an explosive bat," CNU coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield said in the release. "Her bat is what you see right off, but then you look at her defense and you realize she's such a well-rounded ballplayer. She has the potential to go yard for us and to knock runners in."

Golf

• Chase Miller from Dalton High School and Hunter Cornelius from Heritage High in Ringgold were part of the College of Coastal Georgia team that won the NAIA men's golf national tournament Friday at LPGA International at Daytona Beach, Fla. Tennessee Wesleyan finished ninth out of 29 teams with Josh Wheeler tying for fifth individually at 214 and Keoni Vidrine tying for 19th at 218 for 54 holes. Coastal Georgia won by four strokes over nine-time champion Oklahoma City University with a 1-over-par 865. Miller and Cornelius shared 25th place at 219 with Mariners teammates finishing fourth and tied for 12th. Miller was part of the inaugural Coastal Georgia team in 2011.

Rowland won and Chattanooga's Gibby Gilbert III tied for 11th in the Greater Orlando Senior Open before that. The Gilbert tournament is the ninth event of the year for the Sunbelt Seniors.

• The 66th annual SunTrust State Open golf tournament is set for Wednesday and Thursday at Belle Meade Country Club in Nashville.
