Big Five: U.S. states that get most revenue from Uncle Sam

The states that received the biggest percentage of their state general revenue from federal aid in fiscal 2012 were:

1. Mississippi, 45.8 percent of its state general revenue

2. Louisiana, 44.3 percent of its state general revenue

3. South Dakota, 41.5 percent of its state general revenue

4. Tennessee, 41.3 percent of its state general revenue

5. Missouri, 40.8 percent of its state general revenue

Georgia ranked 8th at 38.9 percent of state revenue and Alabama ranked 12th at 37 percent of state revenue
