Early voters in Walker County, GA approve liquor by the drink

Walker County, Ga., residents favor liquor by the drink, but don't want to increase property taxes to fund their library system, according to results from early voting released around 7:45 p.m. today.

A special election to allow liquor by the drink in restaurants and eating establishments in the unincorporated county got 645 votes, or 58 percent, in favor and 467, or 42 percent, opposed.

A quarter-mill property tax increase to fund the library had 580 votes, or 52 percent, opposed and 531 votes, or 48 percent, in favor of the increase.

None of the votes cast in the county's 11 voting precincts were included in the early voting results.
