Country stars sing for Bethel Bible Village

What: Country music songwriter Kelley Lovelace, a Hixson High School alum, brought some of his Nashville friends to town for a concert at the Chattanooga Convention Center in support of Bethel Bible Village. Bethel Country Connection featured Craig Morgan, Neil Thrasher and duo Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson, aka Love and Theft. The songwriters performed and shared the back stories on their hits with the audience. The weekend fundraiser also included the annual Bethel Golf Classic at Bear Trace Golf Course in Harrison.

Benefits: Bethel Bible Village, which provides a temporary home for neglected, abused and in-crisis children until they can be reunited with their families.


Chattanooga State receives check from Merrill Lynch

What: Representatives from Bank of America and Merrill Lynch presented a check for $10,000 to Chattanooga State Community College's Workforce Development Certification Program in heavy equipment operation. The program provides workforce training to the unemployed and underemployed in Southeast Tennessee, Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama.

Benefits: The grant will allow Chattanooga State to provide scholarships for up to 10 trainees over a 12-month period. Those who complete training will receive a National Center for Construction Education and Research Heavy Equipment Operators certificate.


Vintage on View raises $16,000 for Children’s Hospital

What: Fashions from bygone days made a comeback for Vintage on View, which was held at The Walden Club. Models wore clothing from the 1920s to 1960s while guests enjoyed tea, coffee or wine, appetizers, decorations by Mike Lees and music by Robert Crabtree. Prizes were awarded to guests for the best vintage ensembles.

Benefits: The fashion event raised more than $16,000 for Children's Hospital at Erlanger.
