COLUMBUS, Ga. - A western Georgia man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in his mother's death.

Authorities say Derrick Harris of Columbus pleaded guilty Tuesday to voluntary manslaughter in the December 2008 stabbing death of Lorraine Street.

Investigators have said the stabbing stemmed from an argument over Street threatening to evict him from her apartment. Officials have said the 62-year-old woman's body was found by relatives who came to check on her.

The Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus reports Harris was sentenced to 20 years on the manslaughter charge and an additional five for using a knife in the attack. He'll be given six years credit for time served.

Harris' attorney, Steve Craft, has said his client wouldn't have fled the scene if he knew the extent of his mother's injuries.
