CLEVELAND, Tenn. - An early morning wreck Friday in which several juveniles were injured involved a stolen car, according to Cleveland police.
Officers responded to a report of a wreck with injuries at 565 Westside Drive about 6:34 a.m. Friday, police department spokeswoman Evie West said in a statement.
Witnesses told police that a white Toyota Camry was headed south when its driver lost control. The Camry then crossed over into the northbound lane of traffic and was struck by a blue GMC Acadia, West said.
Occupants of both vehicles were transported to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga.
An investigation revealed the Camry was stolen from a home off 19th Street SE sometime between Thursday at 11 p.m. and Friday at 6 a.m.
The driver of the Acadia was released after treatment. The occupants of the Camry, all juveniles, are hospitalized in critical condition, West said.
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - Authorities say a Douglas County teen is being treated for rabies after strangling a fox that bit him.
Douglas County Animal Control Manager Frances McMillan told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday that the 13-year-old boy is undergoing treatment as a precaution, and authorities expect test results on the fox to be returned soon.
McMillan said the attack on the boy was the second this week in the county by an animal suspected of having rabies. McMillan said a man also was bitten twice by a fox on Wednesday, a day before the teen was attacked.
McMillan urged county residents to be vigilant and to get their pets vaccinated.
STATESBORO, Ga. - Sheriff's officials in South Georgia say an investigation into an 11-year-old girl's pregnancy has led to criminal charges for a teenage boy.
Bulloch County sheriff's officials said in a statement that the probe began in late April when authorities were called to the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
Authorities said an investigation and interviews led them to the 17-year-old suspect, who has been charged with statutory rape, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. The teen is being held in the Bulloch County Jail.
The Associated Press typically doesn't identify juvenile crime suspects.
JACKSON, Tenn. - A jury has acquitted a former West Tennessee sheriff of assault charges involving one of his deputies.
Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork was arrested in December after being indicted on charges of attempted aggravated sexual battery and other counts. A female deputy had accused him of sexually assaulting her at her home.
Woolfork denied the charges and said they were motivated by politics and money.
The Jackson Sun reported jurors deliberated for about two hours Thursday before reaching their decision.
Woolfork retired as sheriff earlier this year after county officials tried to remove him from office because of alleged misconduct.
