Volkswagen of America today reported a 7.8 percent increase in sales in October over a year ago, though the number of Chattanooga-made Passats sold last month dropped compared to 2013.

VW sold 30,313 vehicles in October, with Golf and Jetta sales leading the way, the company reported today.

Passat sales were 6,513 units for the month, down 10.3 percent for the month.

"Thanks to the refreshed Jetta and the all-new 2015 Golf and Golf GTI attracting customers and enthusiasts, we are pleased to see increased traffic in our showrooms," said Mark McNabb, Volkswagen of America's chief operating officer, in a statement.

Jetta sales for the month were 13,372 units, a 24.7 increase.
