Murder suspect in Gordon County found attempting to extinguish fire with beer

A murder suspect in Gordon County was arrested early Monday morning after officials found him trying to extinguish a brush fire with a beer, according to a news release from the Gordon County Sheriff's Office.

James "Jimmy" Douglas Talley, 52, was arrested just after 2 a.m. Monday in relation to a shooting that happened on Sunday night, resulting in the death of a Hill City community man who has not been identified.

The release said officials found Talley's abandoned truck on Evergreen Road and then noticed the brush fire, where they found Talley sitting near the fire. Officials believe Talley started the fire to try and keep warm, and then it grew out of control, leading him to attempt to put out the fire with a can of beer. Officials believe they recovered the gun used in the murder at the scene where they found Talley on Monday.

Talley was transported to the county jail where he remains.
