Election won't ease middle class woes

Well, voting is now over. No more watching commercials of politicians promising the world and not doing anything. The rich will get richer, the poor will get poorer and the middle class will again get the shaft. If your candidates won, congratulations. Now all you can do is wait and see what the future of your state brings. There will be a lot more fighting between the left and the right side. The people? Well, who cares about the people?

Amendment 1 foes: Push alternatives

I don't support abortion for myself or my daughter. I also voted "no" on Amendment 1. My daughter was born when I was 19. Having her was a choice that altered the course of my life. Many of the women I know have had abortions in situations like my own, although none are proud of this. No one ever is certain what she will do until she finds herself in that same situation, so if you say you know what you would do or what you would encourage your daughter or lover to do, I don't believe you. Conviction that hasn't been put to the test is just a word. If you voted "yes" and you think you never would have an abortion or encourage someone else to do so, I hope that you are actively adopting children, that you are seeking ways to extend health coverage for underinsured women, that you are ensuring we provide birth control and sex education to prevent unwanted pregnancies. If you are not doing these things, I consider you a hypocrite who does not care about the lives of the women and children you ostensibly seek to love and protect.

Come on; go easy on Dallas Cowboys

This is in response to Mark Kennedy's most recent slap at the Dallas Cowboys when his advice to his son was to pick a sports team to support through life, but should he choose the Cowboys, don't come home for Thanksgiving. Really? I recall his mention of the time Roger Staubach visited the newspaper office, and he sat there developing heartburn just from the near proximity of the famed Dallas quarterback. Mark, the Cowboys drafted Staubach upon his graduation from the Naval Academy, then waited four years for him to complete his service obligation to his country. But was it ever worth the wait! I'm sure it still eats at you when Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson was quoted saying, "Terry Bradshaw is so stupid he couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the C and the A." That was a joke, Mark. Not that Bradshaw is any rocket scientist, but he did learn well from Phil Robertson and he's such a good ole boy that even Dallas fans like him. After all, Roger was never able to defeat Terry in several Super Bowls, but weren't those Cowboys-Steelers matches the most interesting Super Bowls ever?

'Letter' praised for roadmap

I loved Mark Kennedy's "Letter to a teenage son" in the Sunday, Nov. 2, paper. If more fathers were raising their sons like that, it would soon be a better world. We readers complain about so much, I would like to give Mark congratulations on a job well done.
