Huesman Mocs' all-time total-offense leader

Jacob Huesman made history with his teammates Saturday.

The junior quarterback has gained more yards from the line of scrimmage than any football player in the history of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Huesman has accumulated 7,378 yards of total offense, which surpasses the previous mark of 7,247 held by former quarterback Chris Sanders.

"He should be proud," coach Russ Huesman said. "He's got a lot of people around him helping, but he's a ballplayer. I was glad I got the chance to hug him in the locker room after."

The coach's son rushed for 22 yards on 13 carries and completed 26 of 33 passes for 250 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 31-13 win over Wofford.

"He's part of us," the coach said. "He struggled with us. He fell in love with Chattanooga and Chattanooga football, and what a tremendous part he's played in what we've done."

Tull ties SoCon record

Senior defensive end Davis Tull split a sack with Keonti Davis, which lifts Tull to a tie for the Southern Conference all-time sack record.

Davis and Tull dragged down Michael Weimer for a 12-yard loss with 1:17 to go, tying Tull with former Appalachian State great Josh Jeffries with 36.5 career sacks.

"We had a great offense tonight and they put up points, so Wofford had to throw in the fourth quarter," Tull said. "That makes it easier to pin your ears back."

He has at least three games remaining to climb national all-time rankings. He is 5.5 sacks from the all-time FCS record. He's fourth on that list. UTC's final two teams in the regular season -- Tennessee Tech and Furman -- run more traditional offenses than the triple-option that Wofford operated Saturday.

"It's a totally different mindset," Tull said. "You have to change to lateral movement and read your keys."

Williams nears record

Senior running back Keon Williams scored three touchdowns and is within one of the school career record.

Williams had touchdown runs of 7, 11 and 7 yards against the Terriers. His 27 career rushing TDs are one behind Gene Roberts, who played in 1945-46.

Williams also crossed the 2,000 career-yard mark. He has 2,060.

"It's not me, it's a team effort," said Williams, who finished his high school career at Red Bank and had 91 yards on a career-high 27 carries Saturday.

"He had hard yards," Coach Huesman said. "That was a tough 91 yards. He's going to be sore."

Williams said his ankle started swelling after the game.

"I'm going to be hurting," he said. "But it's well worth it because we're SoCon champs."

Shafaat back in flow

Senior tight end Faysal Shafaat has been battling a shoulder injury for most of the season. It didn't show on Saturday.

Shafaat caught a career-high eight passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.

"Game by game it would feel better, and this game it felt good," Shafaat said. "It was a good feeling to know the offense came out here to play, too."

He made a leaping catch in the back of the end zone. He made a one-handed grab on the UTC sideline, and he was crunched after his catches in the middle of the field.

"What wasn't my favorite catch was my flat route on third down where I didn't get the first down," Shafaat said. "Still, it's a good feeling to be SoCon champs."
