In a first for Chattanooga Market, fashion will be the focus on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Seventeen vendors will feature original designs in everything from clothing to jewelry to purses to scarves. There will items for men, too, ranging from trendy tees to leather goods to bow ties. Other vendors will have fashions for children and infants.

"One of the unique things about our farmers market is that we are also an artists market," says spokeswoman Melissa Siragusa. "When seasons change, we find ourselves able to focus on textiles, arts, crafts, photography and other things that we offer all season long ... . Sometimes the awe of fresh produce steals the show, so we want to use this preholiday time to show folks some unique fashion finds as well."

Now in her ninth year at the market is artist/fashion designer Julie Whitehead of Julie Belle Designs (JBD Dye Worx on Facebook). Siragusa describes her tie-dye apparel and accessories as "thoughtfully and skillfully made."

Whitehead says women's hoodies, scarves and asymmetrical skirts are her biggest sellers.

"A lot of the kids' clothing and T-shirts are bright California tie-dye, while the women's wear is more sophisticated with both bright and subdued color and pattern," she says.

Whitehead says there has been an increase in fashion vendors at the market in the last nine years, especially in children's and women's clothing.

"I think there is a little competition, but we are all so diverse it's easy for us all to be profitable at the market," she says. "I love that we have so many interesting vendors now. This year I noticed we have a vendor who makes bow ties, one that makes these beautiful beaded soleless sandals that you can wear with or without shoes and one that weaves gorgeous scarves. I think the small amount of competition keeps us on our toes to stay diverse and creative."
