A: Well, that's like asking the secret to good parenting, the answer to which is to have good kids, by the way. Charlton Heston (name dropping I know) told me in an interview that the secret was to "never forget those three words: 'I was wrong,'" he said. Funny, but kind of true. I'd say the secret is to marry someone you like, and also the faster you learn that fighting is not necessary, the better off you both are.
