Crews battling large industrial fire in Rome, Georgia

ROME, Ga. - Fire crews in northwest Georgia are battling a large blaze at a steel wire and coating plant.

Plumes of black smoke billowed into the air during the fire Wednesday afternoon at the Bekaert plant in Rome. The company's human resources manager Jeff Oliver tells the Rome News-Tribune the fire began with a piece of machinery and eventually spread to the plant's ceiling.

Oliver says all of the plant's employees made it out of the building unharmed. Rome Fire Chief Gordon Henderson tells WSB-TV that no injuries have been reported.
