Tennessee jobless rate falls to 7.1 percent

Unemployment in Tennessee fell by two tenths of a percentage point last month to 7.1 percent.

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development said today that Tennessee employers added 7,900 jobs during October, led by increases in transportatin, utilities, professional services and manufacturing.

Despite the job gains, however, Tennessee's jobless rate in October remained well above the U.S. rate of 5.8 percent.

Over the past year, Tennessee's unemployment rate decreased from 8.1 percent to 7.1 percent while the national rate declined from 7.2 percent to 5.8 percent.

In the past 12 months, nonfarm employment in Tennessee increased by 59,800 jobs.
