Jenkins, Loftis due their day In court

I have a few comments about the Nov. 12 article "Suspects in Death Get Bond Lowered." The defendants mentioned were Chance Loftis and Travis Jenkins. I spoke with one of your fine editors, Dan Woods, who was compassionate and very professional. The crime articles written in our fine paper are obtained from the original police reports, in this case dating back to April 2012. The newspaper can only "give voice" - notice, I didn't say "state facts" - to what was in the police narratives that were told to them by many witnesses. Many, many people were interviewed that night. We all know that if three people witness a wreck, we'll get three different versions. All I'm asking is that the public wait for a jury trial, which is scheduled next January. Please do not set in stone that Travis Jenkins or Chance Loftis intentionally killed a dog that night. I proudly come from a family of huge animal lovers.

Why reject Obama? Here's why

A letter writer from Soddy-Daisy asked "How could U.S.A. reject Obama?" Let me see if I can name a few reasons. Pulling combat troops out of foreign countries? Yes, by giving "pink slips" to officers while still on the battlefield. And reducing the military. A fall in unemployment? Yes, everyone has stopped looking for jobs. They found out it pays more to be on welfare than work. What is wrong with this picture? Health care for millions? Yes, if you can afford the payments, which went up, and losing the doctor that you had, when he said you could keep both. Seems the debt went to three times what it was; of course, that was George Bush's fault, since he was already out of office. Immigration reform? When you do not do anything at the border, and let everyone in who wants to cross, when it is said "the border is the safest it has ever been," by one of Obama's appointees. Yes, there are problems on both sides of the aisle, but do not say the Constitution is being followed. President Obama has ignored the Constitution more than any president since Woodrow Wilson.

'Fifty Shades' column hit the mark

It is not often that I agree with David Cook, but his column "Fifty Shades of Orange" on Wednesday was right on target, especially "Gentleness and morality no longer have footholds in our culture" and, about modern football, "It isn't dignified, it isn't honorable, but it's winning."
