One person was killed in a multivehicle crash around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on South Dixie Highway near Forest Hill Road in Whitfield County, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
April M. Speck, 26, of Rocky Face, Ga., died in the crash. Two drivers in other vehicles involved in the accident, Everilda E. Valasquez, 49, of Calhoun, Ga., and Celissa D. Woddal, 28, of Dalton, Ga., were taken to Hamilton Medical Center with unknown injuries.
According to the release, the crash occurred when Speck tried to pass cars while traveling north up a hill in a no-passing zone. She attempted to get back in the southbound lane on the hill crest, but her car hit the side of Valasquez's vehicle. Speck then overcorrected and began spinning, causing her to hit the side of Woodall's car in the other lane.
