TBI officials said late today they are still investigating the officer-involved shooting of Cleveland, Tenn., resident 51-year-old Robert Edwin Eaves.

This morning, Eeaves abducted a 28-year-old female neighbor from a residence near his home and took her to a residence on Phillips Street where three children, including a 16-year-old babysitter were inside.

Eaves entered the home, threatened the safety of those inside but one of the children was able to call a parent who notified authorities around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Two Cleveland Police Department officers arrived at the home and during "an interaction" with the officers, Eaves produced a knife and attempted to assault the officers, TBI officials said.

One or both of the officers fired on Eaves, killing him.

The officers were identified as 25-year-old Jacob Varnell and 45-year-old Jody Musselwhite, both of whom were placed on routine administrative leave per department policy.

The investigation is continuing.
