UT hoops aide Adam Howard resigns

KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee assistant basketball coach Adam Howard abruptly resigned Monday due to what the program termed "personal reasons."

Video coordinator Beau Braden will assume Howard's role on first-year coach Donnie Tyndall's staff alongside Chris Shumate and Al Pinkins.

It's unclear if Howard's resignation stems from the NCAA investigation into potential allegations of improper benefits and academic infractions during Tyndall's tenure at Southern Mississippi the past two years.

The former Western Kentucky guard joined Tyndall's staff at Morehead State as a graduate assistant in 2009, served as a full-time assistant on the Eagles' staff the following two years and followed Tyndall to Southern Miss in 2012.

Howard worked primarily with Tennessee's guards.

The Volunteers play their opener in the Orlando Classic at the HP Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Thursday against Santa Clara (noon, ESPN2) and will meet 11th-ranked Kansas or Rhode Island in their second game Friday. Michigan State, Rider, Georgia Tech and Marquette comprise the other half of the bracket.
