Two deputies had to take quick and evasive action today, one officer firing his weapon, to avoid being struck by a car driven by a suspect, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived at 8903 Bramlett Road in Harrison around noon, after receiving a report that a stolen vehicle could be found at the address. Upon arrival, deputies identified Thomas Hughes, who tried to escape in a vehicle he had been working on, according to the release.

Hughes ignored commands to stop the vehicle and recklessly drove the vehicle in the direction of the deputies, causing one of the officers to fire his weapon at least once.

Hughes managed to flee the scene, but the vehicle he was driving was soon located, but authorities believe Hughes escaped into a wooded area.

The car Hughes used to escape was stolen, along with another one at the residence, according to the release.

A warrant has been obtained for Hughes, who is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a weapon.

The investigation remains ongoing.
