The Lee University women's soccer team opens play Monday at 4:30 p.m. against Roberts Wesleyan in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I national tournament at Kissimmee, Fla. With seven shutouts in their last eight matches, the Lady Flames (12-4-1) also are set to play Wednesday at 4:30 against Taylor University. Lee won NAIA national titles from 2008 to 2011 but now is in NCAA Division II and was the unofficial Gulf South Conference regular-season winner this season. The Cleveland school can start GSC and DII postseason play next year. The winner of each of the three pools this week plus a wild-card team will move into Friday's semifinals. Midfielder Kinsey Cichowitz, defenders Michelle Spangler and Meagan Newman and goalkeeper Marbel Egwuenu represented the Lady Flames on the NCCAA All-Mid-East Region team.

Basketball

• In an early-season showdown of undefeated NAIA-ranked men's basketball teams, host William Carey finally got past Dalton State in three overtimes Friday night in Hattiesburg, Miss., 101-95. Ninth-ranked William Carey improved to 6-0, 2-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. And No. 15 Dalton State is 7-1, 2-1 after pulling out a 68-66 win Saturday at Loyola of New Orleans. Friday, Sean Tate hit all of 12 of his free throws and five of eight 3-point shots and scored 33 points in defeat for the Roadrunners, who got 19 points and three steals from Preston Earle and 18 points, 17 rebounds, six blocked shots and four assists from Ladaris Green. William Carey's Deion Weeks had 27 points with five 3s, and Rashad Bickham had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Saturday, Tate missed two free throws with the score tied and seven seconds left, but Jordan Bowling rebounded the second miss and passed to Earle for the winning basket. Tate had 19 points and four assists in the win, Green had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Bowling and Earle each scored 14 points, Bowling adding 10 rebounds.

• Tennessee Wesleyan's NAIA Division II men's basketball team found rough going Saturday at NCAA Division II member Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tenn. LMU's Railsplitters improved to 6-0 for the season with a 100-56 victory featuring 22 points on 9-of-9 shooting from the field by Keenan Peterson and 11 assists from Lorenza Ross. LMU shot 58.7 percent as a team and 55 percent on 3-pointers (11-of-20), while the Bulldogs (4-5) shot 37.7 percent with 11.1 percent on 3s (2-of-18). Devante' Jenkins had 12 points and seven rebounds and Leland Robinson added 11 points in defeat.

• "Voice of the Mocs" Jim Reynolds will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Admission costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. The longtime radio play-by-play man for UTC will discuss the football Mocs' championship season and the basketball Mocs' prospects for 2014-15, with Georgia set to visit Tuesday.
