NASHVILLE -- Republican Marc Gravitt of East Ridge was officially sworn in Tuesday as the new state representative of House District 30.

East Ridge City Judge J. Cris Helton conducted the ceremony. Gravitt is an East Ridge city councilman.

The Hamilton County Commission earlier this month named Gravitt to take office early and fill the remaining time in former state Rep. Vince Dean's term. Dean was elected Hamilton County Criminal Court Clerk last month and resigned his legislative seat when he assumed his new office.

Gravitt, who owns Gravitt Auctions and Appraisals, won his Aug. 7 GOP primary with no opposition and also faces no opponent in the November election for a full two-year term.

In a news release, Gravitt said he is thankful for the support shown to him and "truly grateful to both the voters and the Hamilton County Commission for the faith they have placed in me."

Gravitt, who is president of the Tennessee Auctioneers Association, said he plans on continuing Dean's "hard work and conservative representation."

House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick, R-Chattanooga, said he is looking forward to working with Gravitt.
