Robertson leads field in Chattanooga TPC and other sports news

Chattanooga Men's Metro and Brainerd Invitational champion Matt Robertson was the medalist in the Chattanooga TPC qualifying round Thursday at Council Fire Golf Club. Robertson shot a 2-under-par 70. David Watts is the No. 2 seed in the 16-man field of match play. Brandon Cissom placed third with a 72. Tom Baird led the senior division with a 74. Neil Spitalny earned the second seed and will face third-seeded Mitch Hufstetler today at Council Fire.

Volleyball

• Victoria Smith had 18 kills and Kiara Govan had 23 assists as Tennessee Temple defeated visiting Talladega College 3-0 in volleyball Thursday night, lifting the Lady Crusaders to 12-9. The set scores were 25-11, 25-19, 26-21.

Softball

• The Lady Moc RBI Club is hosting a college softball tournament today and Saturday at Warner Park with proceeds going to help the UTC softball program. The Mocs will play at 5 and 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, and Bryan College, Tennessee Wesleyan, Chattanooga State and Cleveland State also are participating. Admission costs $5 each day; ages 12 and under will be admitted free.

Auto Racing

• Boyd's Speedway has no racing scheduled this weekend but will resume with all its regular classes on Oct. 11. Jamie Perry won again in the Steelhead Late Model race last week, and Jerry Coffman won the Crate Late Model feature. Booger Brooks won in A-Hobby, Ricky Wagoner in B-Hobby and Bruce Kimber in Pony/FWD. Perry also had won on Friday at newly reopened Cleveland Speedway, which had been closed all year until Sept. 19.
