Keep mail service operation local

Postal workers take pride in providing prompt, dependable mail service to Chattanooga. Postal workers are sworn public servants who uphold the sanctity of the mail. We believe the public is entitled to have public postal services. This is why we are so concerned about the Postal Service's plan to shift mail operations from Chattanooga to Nashville and Atlanta.

Unfortunately, this consolidation plan will result in slower, less reliable mail service for citizens of Chattanooga and neighboring communities. Mail will be collected earlier in the day and arrive later, possibly after dark. Checks will be delayed, bills may not arrive on time and medication delivered by mail will take longer to arrive.

Sending our mail to Nashville and Atlanta for processing also will hurt local businesses, will take jobs and drain the economy in Chattanooga. The Postal Service claims the move will improve efficiency, but it has yet to prove the plan can really save money and resources, or that it could maintain the current level of service.

Chattanooga's postal workers are asking everyone to take a stand against consolidation. Contact your congressional representatives and urge them to protect the reliable and timely service you currently receive.

Jesus was no homosexual

Every now and then, someone comes up with the terribly false idea that Jesus Christ was homosexual. That idea certainly did not come from the Bible.

One lady believed because 12 men followed him around, Jesus was homosexual. Those 12 men were the disciples Jesus picked to help him teach the gospel. One of those men was named Peter. Peter had a mother-in-law that Jesus healed. That shows Peter had a wife. Since Peter had a wife, why shouldn't the other 11 disciples have wives?

Now, as in Bible days, both men and women followed Jesus. Some of the women Jesus taught and followed him were Mary Magdalene, the woman at the well, Mary and Martha, and the woman he saved from being stoned for committing adultery. He told her to go and sin no more; also the women who touched the hem of his garment followed him.

Jesus was not only the son of God, he was God in the flesh. It would stand to reason whatever God said against homosexuality, Jesus would agree with his father. Jesus was perfect. He practiced what he preached. Not homosexuality.

How many police does it take?

I have to wonder why it takes 10 to 12 policemen to get one man into a jail cell.

Recent film has shown a handcuffed man being thrown face down on a counter and then taken by two officers to a cell, followed by at least eight more officers.

I would think they are trained much better, so it would not take an entire station to put a man into a cell.

Why do all officers present have to get in on the occasion? The only thing I can think is each one wants to get his kicks in on a handcuffed man.
