University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior All-American Teghan Henderson was the Southern Conference women's cross country runner of the month for September, the league office announced Tuesday. After defending her title in UTC's PowerAde Invitational meet, she set a 5-kilometer personal record of 16:53.25 in winning Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic. The Mocs will host the Front Runner Invitational on Oct. 18 on the Moccasin Bend course.

Golf

• Led by a 141 total for freshman Corey Sheppard, defending National Christian College Athletic Association men's golf champion Lee University rolled to the NCCAA Mid-East Region title by 30 strokes Monday and Tuesday at the Old Silos course in Mount Sterling, Ky. Lee's six entrants had the six best scores, with freshman Ryne Thompson finishing second at 145 playing as an individual and the Flames' Taylor Davis and Peyton Sliger tying for third at 151. Matt Strube and Adam Wright tied for fifth at 152.

• Sewanee golfers Saer Brown and Alex Wedding tied for 16th and 21st in the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational with 73s Tuesday that gave them totals of 147 and 148. David Spears and Taylor Mottern had 154s for Sewanee, which at 602 was seventh in the 16-team event at Oakwood, Ga. Oglethorpe won with a 578.

• Dalton State's Sean Elliott finished second by a stroke at 216 and Tennessee Wesleyan's Keoni Vidrine was third at 217 in the 21-team NAIA Fall Preview Championship last weekend at Daytona Beach, Fla. DSC finished fourth with Chase Jones tying for 24th at 226; TWC was seventh.

Volleyball

• Appalachian Athletic Conference leader Bryan College won its 16th consecutive volleyball match Tuesday night, 3-0 at Reinhardt. The Lady Lions (17-3, 8-0) won 25-20, 25-16, 25-6. Second-place Union College (16-6, 7-1) beat Tennessee Wesleyan 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-12).

• Covenant College improved to 16-6 in volleyball this season with a 3-0 romp (25-10, 25-12, 25-8) Tuesday at Agnes Scott. Chelsea VanDyk had nine kills and Schuyler Moore had 16 assists and three aces for the Lady Scots, who got four aces and 10 assists from Jessica Seehorn and 10 digs from Chloe Carlson.

• The Georgia Northwestern volleyball team won 25-20, 25-16 over the Covenant junior varsity but lost 25-15, 25-18, 25-21 to four-year school Oakwood in matches Monday night at the Rossville Athletic Center. Holly Mount had eight kills, Rachel McGill had 12 assists and three aces and Sabrina Garcia and Katlyn Bishop had 10 digs apiece in the win for GNTC (5-6).

• Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan had 13 kills, 16 digs and three aces and Kristen Pickett from Cleveland High School had 37 assists as Carson-Newman's volleyball team improved to 12-4, 8-1 in the South Atlantic Conference, with a 3-0 win Tuesday at Lincoln Memorial.

Soccer

• Nationally fifth-ranked Emory beat Covenant 2-0 in NCAA Division III women's soccer Tuesday in Atlanta. Lucy Johnson made 14 saves for Covenant (6-7-1). Emory (7-0-3) scored in the 52nd and 68th minutes.

Running

• Tennessee Wesleyan's Joseph Mullen repeated as the AAC men's cross country runner of the week after his showing in the Greater Louisville Classic in which only four of the 28 teams in the Gold race were not NCAA Division I members. It was his third honor in five weeks. TWC's Hannah Rhodes was the women's honoree two weeks ago.

Rugby

• The UTC women's rugby club team beat LSU 27-0 and Tulane 29-5 in matches this past weekend in New Orleans. Freshman Monica Brown scored three tries and classmate Shaquila Golden added her first career try in the LSU match, when Erin Mitchell and Bobbi Harris led the defensive shutout. The defense created numerous opportunities against Tulane, which scored in the last minute after Rakerria Mines, Raven Robinson, Anastasia Sharp, Dianne Pamplona and Golden scored for UTC. UTC will host Lee and Sewanee on Oct. 25 at Montague Park.
