In a tough District 5-AAA loss last Friday to McMinn County, Soddy-Daisy quarterback Hunter Maynor set a city single-game passing record by throwing for 451 yards.

The record had been held by Ooltewah's Jeremy Woods (430 yards).

Maynor completed 29 of 46 passes with three touchdows and no interceptions. He also ran eight times for 32 yards and two scores.

"I can't say enough about him," Trojans coach Justin Barnes said. "Every week we put a little more on him. He's doing things you see guys do on Saturdays. Sometimes you get that much much on you there's a tendency to worry too much about that. But it hasn't."

For the year Maynor has completed 113 of 187 passes for 1,825 yards with 17 TDs and just three interceptions.

The single-season passing record of 2,927 yards is held by former McCallie quarterback B.J. Coleman.

Irish visit old school site

For decades Notre Dame fielded a football team with neither a practice facility nor a home field. They donned their practice gear, walked 20 or more minutes to the University of Chattanooga, Warner Park or Engel Stadium for practice and then walked back.

The 2014 Fighting Irish got a feel Thursday for what it was like, visiting the old Notre Dame site on Eighth Street downtown near Saints Peter and Paul Basilica and then walking to Engel Stadium for practice.

"I was blown away with the knowledge that Notre Dame had played more than 100 years of football and never played on a home site until the 1990s, and I thought about all the homecomings those old teams had at other people's fields," coach Charles Fant said. "I want our guys to respect and understand how far Notre Dame has come and to understand that there are a bunch of guys that did a lot for Notre Dame to get where we are."

Meigs' Ricker still sidelined

Meigs County running back Dakota Ricker will likely sit out again tonight after missing the Tigers' game last Friday against Knoxville's Grace Christian. The senior, who has dealt with shoulder injuries and subsequent surgery, suffered a knee injury in the first half of a close loss to McMinn Central.

"He had an MRI on Monday. The initial diagnosis was a sprained MCL, so we're hopeful," Meigs coach Jason Fitzgerald said. "He's already been doing some running."

Offers growing for Lions' Smith

Red Bank lineman Myles Smith now has scholarship offers from East Tennessee State, Alcorn State, Austin Peay and Kentucky Christian, and the 6-foot-5, 295-pounder also is drawing interest from Middle Tennessee State, Mercer, Georgia Southern and Tennessee Tech.

"Interest is picking up. He moves well for a big guy," Lions coach Chad Grabowski said. "He only recently turned 17."

Dalton's Mora has broken foot

Dalton's defense played an amazing 107 snaps last Friday, and coach Matt Land and his staff were borrowing players from the offensive unit and wound up using 22 defensively.

"You try to keep [opponents] under 70 snaps. Our guys were worn out," Land said.

What made it even tougher on the Catamounts was losing versatile Eder Mora due to a broken bone in his foot.

"He can play three positions. Normally he's an outside linebacker, but his abilities allow us to move him to free safety," Land said. "He played inside linebacker his first two years."

McCallie fourth in South Region

McCallie jumped from No. 12 to No. 4 in the South in the MaxPreps regional computer football rankings following its 35-9 victory over previously unbeaten Baylor.

The Blue Tornado are at home again this week to host Brentwood Academy, McCallie's fourth straight state-ranked opponent.
