UTC beats Wofford in volleyball, 3-1

Led by 12 kills from Allie Davenport and 10 from Nicole Sumida, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga defeated Wofford 3-1 in Southern Conference volleyball Friday night at Spartanburg, S.C.

The set scores were 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 in favor of the Mocs (10-10, 3-2). Wofford dropped to 9-11, 2-2 in the league.

Lauren Greenspoon set 24 assists and Anne Bachmann added 15 for UTC, which got 17 digs from Catherine Chason and 13 from Davenport. Lauren Gainer had five block assists and eight kills.

• At Dayton, Tenn., Kara Stamper made 13 kills as Bryan College blistered visiting St. Andrews 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-13) for its 17th win in a row. Taylor Fink had 21 assists in the Appalachian Athletic Conference win for the Lady Lions (18-3, 9-0).

• At Tennessee Temple, the Lady Crusaders beat Fisk 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-20) as Victoria Smith had nine kills, Kiara Govan had 23 assists and Any Keokanlaya had 18 digs. Also for Temple (15-10), Naomi Posada and Shatoya Medford had 14 and 12 digs and six kills apiece, Sisten Lipsey had 13 digs and Lydia Vick also had 12 digs.

• At Valdosta, Ga., Jenna Kirkwood had 16 kills and Jessica Codato had 36 assists and 12 digs as Valdosta State beat Lee 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-14) in Gulf South Conference play. VSU is 11-3, 8-3 in the GSC. Brooke Wilsman paced Lee (6-10, 4-6) in kills with seven, while Sadie Johnson led with 13 assists and Latrice Johnson and Stephanie Hernandez had 10 digs each.

• At Anderson, S.C., Kristen Pickett from Cleveland High School had 37 assists and Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan had 14 kills and they had 12 digs apiece as Carson-Newman won 3-0 over Anderson. The Lady Eagles rose to 13-4, 9-1 in the South Atlantic Conference.
