Works tell Lambert's effectiveness

What do political signs tell us about an individual who is running for office? Nothing!

Therefore, it is up to the individual citizen to determine what a person represents or is in favor of. What about those already in office and once again running to be re-elected? What he or she has or has not accomplished is not on those signs, either.

I know what Brent Lambert has accomplished as our mayor! He has worked hard to make sure progress is being made in East Ridge. He has a positive track record, and he has plans and goals that will continue to improve our city.

It is his accomplishments and not signs on the sides of our streets that will make the difference when Election Day rolls around.

Let rec center host hungry children

The headline is devastating: "Number of Homeless Children Soars." It is a tragic and outrageous fact that the number of homeless children in this nation, and in our own community, is swelling every day.

And, this story is punctuated by David Cook's piece about two amazing people who feed children every morning before school.

These children live in the shadow of poverty, violence and desperation. They find not only food but hope every morning through the holy generosity of two saints in our community, the Rolles.

It is insane the school district is threatening to move the bus stop from where this miracle happens each day.

Instead of punishing this ministry, we should be thanking God for sending these angels among us. This is especially true in light of the very simple solution offered in David Cook's article.

Open the community center.

Return Robertson, Allen to council

Every community has amenities central to its character and deserving of protection. The proposed Signal Mountain conservation easement agreement is about safeguarding such amenities. It's about a logical effort to put natural areas, which no sane person would propose be developed anyway, into protected status. It's forward-thinking and deserves wide community support.

Those candidates speaking against conservation efforts seem driven more by love of money than love of community. Their efforts to discredit the work of community leaders, who have done the necessary due diligence on preservation options, indicate they may be fronting for people who have designs on the community the majority of citizens would not support. I urge citizens to reject them on Election Day.

It seems every election there is a cadre of puppets for the realty and developer class that seek office to stack the Town Council for selfish interests. Such candidates whose statements are often blatant misrepresentations of the facts disqualify themselves, in my opinion.

As a Signal Mountain resident since 1950, I think council members Annette Allen and Vice-Mayor Susan Robertson have done yeoman's work for the town and deserve to be returned to office.

State constitution fine the way it is now

Leave the Tennessee Constitution alone. Our state legislators are asking the voters to turn them loose with no restrictions to change what they don't like. We have seen what they did for the gun lobby, so now we are like the Wild West.

I am of the opinion they don't know what they are doing, trying to outdo each other with stupid bills, and our governor does not seem to have the backbone to veto them.

Not understanding that their motives are anything but political I urge everyone to vote NO on all amendments, and if things need to be looked at, let's do it by a constitutional convention with elected delegates.
