The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the Geico Skytypers airshow team, above, will be among the highlights of the Wings Over North Georgia Airshow in Rome this weekend.
The 75-year-old planes flown by the Skytypers will demonstrate low-altitude, precision-formation techniques demanded of Navy pilots flying missions everywhere from Korea to Kenya. Also The Geico Skytypers will demonstrate the six-plane, wingtip-to-wingtip maneuvers in their vintage warbirds. The Thunderbirds will demonstrate the same formations in modern-day F-16 Fighting Falcons.
Airshow hours are 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, with a concert, nighttime airshow and fireworks finale following from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Hours Sunday are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission each day is $20 for adults, $15 for youth, military, fire and police personnel and seniors, free for kids under 5.
