Furman ends UTC's winning streak

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball winning streak ended at four as the Mocs lost 3-0 Friday night in a Southern Conference match at Furman.

Kristy Wieser had 13 kills and Allie Davenport added 10 for UTC (11-11, 4-3), while Lauren Greenspoon and Anne Bachmann had 18 and 15 assists and Catherine Chason made 10 digs in the 25-13, 28-26, 25-16 contest in Greenville, S.C.

Andrea Fisher and Ashton Gregory each had 12 kills and Annie Bierman had 10 for Furman (13-5, 6-1), which go 39 assists from Jo Wilks.

• At Rome, Ga., the Bryan College winning streak ended at 18 matches with a 3-1 loss Friday night to NCAA Division II member Shorter. That left the host Hawks 15-3 and Bryan 19-4.

• At Lakeland, Fla., Lee University dropped to 6-14 with 3-0 losses to NCAA Division II's top-ranked Tampa and No. 25 South Region Crossover host Florida Southern. Lauren Williams had 12 kills and Sadie Johnson and Haley Foote had 16 and 12 assists against Tampa (16-1). Latrice Johnson served three aces in that match and led the Lady Flames with seven kills against Florida Southern (15-4), when Sarah Davis had three aces, Stephanie Hernandez had 20 digs and Foote had 10 digs with 14 assists.

• At Dalton, Ga., Dalton State's Lady Roadrunners rose to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the Southern States Athletic Conference with a 3-2 win (25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 15-12) over Loyola from Louisiana. Anna Metzler returned from an ankle injury and provided 15 kills and 13 digs for Dalton State, while Alyne Bianchi had 12 kills and Kianna Delaney had 10, plus four aces. Michala Askew had 45 assists and 13 digs, and Tori Pierce had 12 digs.

Eva Allen had 16 kills and Daniela Leal set 35 assists to lead Loyola.

• At Jefferson City, Tenn., Kristen Pickett from Cleveland High School had 37 assists and 10 digs and Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan had 14 kills and nine digs at Carson-Newman (16-4, 12-1) defeated Queens 3-1 in a South Atlantic Conference match.

• At Bristol, Tenn., Cleveland High graduate Payton Tipton had a match-high 16 digs in King's 3-0 Conference Carolinas win over Barton. King is 12-9, 6-4.
