Lady Bruins advance with 1-0 win

DANIELSVILLE, Ga. - Northwest Whitfield continued its hope of three-peating as Class AAAA state champion with a 1-0 victory over Madison County in which BriLeigh Baggett pitched a three-hitter and the Lady Bruins made a hitless first-inning score hold up. They will begin another best-of-three series Wednesday at Marist in Atlanta.

Alyssa Ward led off Friday's game with a walk off Alexis Damron, who also allowed only three hits, and stole second base. She was bunted to third and Shelby Ralston got her home with a groundout.

The Lady Bruins (18-17), who had lost 8-0 before winning 8-3 on Thursday, got an inning-ending double play in the fifth inning when Madison County (27-8) had runners on third and second. Baggett fielded an attempted squeeze bunt and threw home, and the lead runner was caught in a rundown; the other was thrown out trying to get back to second.
