Behind the scenes, Chattanooga company on front lines of Ebola response

photo Chattanooga-based SafetyPlus, LLC, which deals in infectious disease control and other types of medical cleanup, is one of just two companies approved by the EPA for certain types of environmental management.

A Chattanooga-based company has been heavily involved in the U.S.' behind-the-scenes Ebola response since August, helping to decontaminate of transport vehicles, aircraft and treatment facilities.

Safety Plus LLC, a company which works to clean highly critical environments, has been involved in the follow-up decontamination stemming from the transportation of six patients who contracted the Ebola virus in West Africa to treatment centers in the U.S., the company announced Tuesday.

The company's Biological Emergency Response Team has been involved at sites across the country as Ebola containment measures have intensified.

"The urgent and critical nature of moving these patients to facilities for treatment has involved the priority of their care and safety while isolating and destroying any live virulent from their personal effects, the transport vehicles, and the treatment settings," said Clay Wardlaw, president of SafetyPlus.

Wardlaw is a Chattanooga resident and a Baylor School graduate.

While the family-owned SafetyPlus is headquartered in Chattanooga, other offices are located in Atlanta, Orlando, and West Palm Beach, Fla.
