SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - East Tennessee authorities have removed dozens of pit bulls from a breeding operation and arrested three people on dog fighting charges.

The Mountain Press in Sevierville says officials arrived at the home about 10 miles north of Sevierville early Tuesday and arrested Mark Heatherly, 45-year-old Kimberly L. Heatherly and 23-year-old Jacob R. Heatherly.

Investigators told the newspaper that Mark Heatherly protested that he didn't train or fight dogs, only bred them. Officials said he was selling them online.

The Knoxville News Sentinel said 47-year-old Mark Heatherly was charged with two counts of dog fighting while his wife and son were charged with conspiracy to commit dog fighting. All three were also charged with possession of marijuana and hydrocodone.

The Mountain Press said 50 dogs were taken from the home, some needing medical treatment.


Man gets 12 years for child porn

ALBANY, Ga. - Federal prosecutors say a South Georgia man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison on child porn charges.

Prosecutors said in a release Tuesday that 37-year-old Thomas W. Faircloth of Cairo was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison and a lifetime of probation.

Authorities say Faircloth admitted to sending 22 photos and 17 videos containing child porn to an undercover FBI agent using a peer-to-peer file sharing network.

Investigators served a search warrant in February of 2013 and found thousands of child porn images and videos on his laptop.


Two charged in double homicide

NEWNAN, Ga. - Sheriff's officials in west Georgia say two arrests have been made in a suspected double homicide.

Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager told the Newnan Times-Herald on Tuesday that 26-year-old Kenya Sewell and 18-year-old Jarico Deshun Brown have been arrested in the deaths of 20-year-old Michael Allen Cantrell and 26-year-old Wesley Watson.

Authorities have said the men were shot and their bodies were found Monday afternoon. Yeager says theft may have been a possible motive in the shootings. Details on what may have been stolen weren't immediately available.

On Monday, Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarborough said the house that the men's bodies were found in showed no signs of forced entry and there was no evidence suggesting a struggle before the shooting.


Motorists urged to watch for deer

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Highway Patrol is urging motorists to be on the lookout for deer.

Officials say October through December is the worst time for deer-related crashes because it's their mating and hunting season.

In Tennessee, there were 6,135 deer-related crashes last year. That's an increase of 3.2 percent from the 5,947 crashes involving deer the previous year.

The THP also reports that between 2009 and 2013, 8.9 percent of deer-related crashes occurred on interstate highways. Deer-related crashes in Tennessee have steadily increased by 15.3 percent since 2009.

Motorists are encouraged to use their cell phones and dial THP 847 in the event of a deer-related crash.
