Hitchcock Week at Gem Theatre - Oct. 26-31

The Gem Theatre, 114 N. Wall St. in Calhoun, Ga., is set to begin Hitchcock Week with seven films by "Master of Suspense" Alfred Hitchcock.

The series kicks off at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, with a double feature: "North by Northwest" and "Suspicion."

Continuing the week are "The Birds" on Monday, Oct. 27; "The 39 Steps" on Tuesday, Oct. 28; "Rear Window" on Wednesday, Oct. 29, and "Strangers on a Train" on Thursday, Oct. 30. All have a 7 p.m. start time.

The finale comes at 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, with a Halloween screening of "Psycho."

About the Films

• "North by Northwest" (1959): A hapless New York advertising executive is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies. Stars Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason.

• "Suspicion" (1941): A shy young English woman marries a charming gentleman, then begins to suspect him of trying to kill her. Stars Cary Grant, and Joan Fontaine.

• "Rear Window" (1954): A wheelchair-bound photographer spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced that one of them has committed murder. Stars Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly and Raymond Burr.

• "Strangers on a Train" (1951): A psychotic socialite confronts a pro tennis star with a theory on how two complete strangers can get away with murder, a theory he plans to implement. Stars Farley Granger, Ruth Roman and Leo G. Carroll.

• "Psycho" (1960): A Phoenix secretary steals $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother. Stars Janet Leigh, Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles and John Gavin.
