COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Ooltewah's Josie Grube claimed her third win of the season, and perhaps her most important to date Thursday.

The Lady Owls senior won the Region 3-AAA cross country individual championship in the meet at Cookeville High School, running the five-kilometer race in 19:00.29. Her performance helped the Lady Owls finish third as a team and qualify for next week's state meet at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

The Ooltewah boys finished second and also qualified, led by senior Garrett Flores' sixth-place finish.

Individually, McMinn County's Logan McKenzie was second, finishing less than a second behind Cookeville's Nathan Longfellow. Soddy-Daisy's Cory Aulich was ninth.

Rhea County's Micah Black and Kenzie Freeman qualified individually for the girls.

In the 4-A/AA meet, Chattanooga Christian's Gus Whitman won the individual meet, helping the Chargers finish a close second to Central Magnet (62 points to 64). Signal Mountain's Thomas Porter finished third to qualify individually.

The Class A/AA defending state champion Signal Mountain girls cruised to the region team title, led by Mallory Young's second-place finish. Young placed behind Central Magnet freshman Taylor Cuneo.
