UTC men's golf 3rd at Bridgestone and other sports news

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team finished third Sunday in the 13-school Bridgestone Collegiate tournament at Greensboro, N.C., with Andrew Weathers getting leading the way with a fifth-place showing. Weathers, slumped to a 75 on Sunday, but still finished at 2-under-par 214, to help the Mocs finish at 8-over 872 as a team. West Gosselin shot a final-round 68 to lead the Mocs on Sunday, and he finished tied for for 12 at 218. Liam Johnston (220) tied for 17th place with Ewan Scott (225) and Kory Webb (226) rounding out the UTC scoring.

• The UTC women's is tied for 10th after the opening round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island, S.C. UTC shot 304 on Sunday, 22 shots behind leader Costal Carolina, but just two four shots behind Kansas State in fifth place. Isabella Loza and Megan Woods each shot 74 to lead the Mocs, followed by Cris Perez (77), Agathe Sauzon (79) and Emily McLennan (81).

Soccer

• The UTC women's soccer team ended the regular season Sunday with an 8-2 loss to The Citadel at Finley Stadium. Melanie Arredondo and Brandy Herrera scored for the Mocs (1-16-1, 0-9 SoCon), with Clare Latham assisting on both goals. UTC will be seeded 10th in the upcoming Southern Conference tournament and will take on seventh-seeded Wofford in a first-round match Wednesday at 7 in Spartanburg, S.C.

• The Lee University soccer teams split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader Sunday at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., with the women's team getting a 1-0 win and the men losing 1-0. Michelle Spangler scored the game winner in the 34th minute on a corner kick by Kinsey Cichowitz to give Lady Flames coach Matt Yelton his 300th career victory.

• Sewanee 's soccer teams split with visiting Birmingham-Southern in Southern Athletic Association play Sunday, with the men losing 4-3 while the Sewanee women prevailing 2-1 in overtime. Reed Dowdy, Ramsey Seagle and Matthew Hawse scored for the Sewanee men, but the Tigers couldn't overcome a four-goal performance by BSC's Bastian Jedliczka. In the women's match, Tyler Edell scored the tying goal in the 77th minute, and Shelby Meckstroth scored the winning goal after a shot by Jamie Samociuk bounced off the Birmingham-Southern keeper.

V0lleyball

• Sewanee wrapped up the regular season with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-13) win at Rhodes in SAA volleyball Sunday. Rachel Schuman had 15 assists and 10 digs to lead the Tigers, while Walker Buxton had 12 assists and Sara Jayne Sutton made 11 digs. Jamie Sue Wilson led the Sewanee attack with nine kills.

Bowling

• McMinn County was the winner and McCallie came in second in the boys' Soddy-Daisy Signal Mountain Fall Classic Bowling Tournament held Saturday at Holiday Bowl Brainerd. "Lots of bowling and a lot of fun for this first-time tournament," McCallie coach Josh Deitrick said.
