photo Hikers can Take a Walk on the Wild Side with a guided hike along the Stone Door trail in the South Cumberland State Park on Sunday, Nov. 2.

It's time to Take a Walk on the Wild Side with the Friends of South Cumberland State Park. The nonprofit advocacy group will host the fourth annual event Sunday at Stone Door and the Beersheba Springs Hotel.

The event starts with a hike at Stone Door in Savage Gulf, one of the 10 areas that make up South Cumberland State Park, which comprises 20,299 acres in Grundy, Franklin, Marion and Sequatchie counties. A ranger will lead the hourlong hike to the fabled rock formation and overlook, a walk of about 20 minutes each way. The hike begins at 1 p.m. CST at the Stone Door parking lot, 1183 Stone Door Road in Beersheba Springs, Tenn.

Whether you hike it nor not, all are invited from 3 to 4:30 p.m. CST to the historic Beersheba Springs Hotel for refreshments, a chance to celebrate the new partnership of the FSC and the Savage Gulf Preservation League and learn about plans for the park and volunteer opportunities. The hotel is at 58 Hege Ave. in Beersheba Springs.

FSC President Ty Burnette says the reception will be a chance to learn about the FSC's initiatives in land preservation and environmental education and ways to get involved.

No RSVP is required. For more information, visit friendsofsouthcumberland.org or contact Margaret Matens at margaretmatens@gmail.com or 931-924-2623.
