Hamilton County Commissioners voted today to announce the General Assembly vacancy left by former Rep. Vince Dean.

Dean sent letters to the commission and Gov. Bill Haslam last week saying he would resign his post on Aug. 31, since he was elected to be the Hamilton County Criminal Court Clerk.

Chairman Jim Fields said the commission would vote to nominate and fill the post during next week's commission meeting, as long as the public had the appropriate seven-day notice.

County Attorney Rheubin Taylor said the general public could come before the commission and nominate candidates to fill the remainder of Dean's term.

East Ridge Councilman Marc Gravitt won the Republican nomination in the Aug. 7 primary. There is no Democratic opposition.
