A report of a child abduction around noon Tuesday turned out to be false, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.

The child's aunt, Letrice Patterson, 32, told police that her car had been stolen from Shallowford Road with the 4-year-old inside. An AMBER alert was activated, and every available officer in the area responded to the incident, investigating for about an hour. During an interview with Patterson, officers realized her story was not consistent, the release said.

The child was found to be safe at school and had been dropped off by Patterson just after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Patterson has since been transported to jail and charged with filing a false report.

Her vehicle, a silver 2010 Mercury Murano, has not yet been recovered.

Child's death investigated

A 4-month-old infant died Wednesday morning at the Gordon Hospital in Calhoun, Ga., according to a news release from the Calhoun Police Department.

Police responded to the hospital around 11:45 a.m. after receiving a call that an infant had arrived in the emergency room and was unresponsive, according to the release. The infant died shortly after officers arrived.

At this stage in the investigation, officers believe that the infant died of natural causes. An autopsy has been requested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab, according to the release.

Woman missing overnight found

A 63-year-old woman reported missing on Monday was found Tuesday, authorities said.

The woman's daughter told East Ridge police yesterday that her mother, who has dementia, had walked off from her home on Village Lake Circle and had not returned, according to a news release.

The East Ridge Police Department began searching the area around Camp Jordan. They were assisted by the Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, East Ridge Fire Rescue, and Hamilton County S.T.A.R.S.

First responders were called to an address on State Line Road to attend to a disoriented female who had fallen, and they identified her as the missing woman.

Two local residents had seen the woman in the area of Ringgold and McBrien roads and offered her a ride. She directed them to her former home on State Line Road, where she slipped and fell.

The woman was treated at Parkridge East Medical Center for minor injuries.
