Headrick applauds 'dark money' vote

Dr. Mary Headrick, Democratic candidate for Tennessee's 3rd District seat in Congress, said in a news release she applauded last week's Senate vote to advance a constitutional amendment to keep "dark money" out of politics.

"The Conservative majority on the United States Supreme Court has made decisions that have put our government up for sale," Headrick said in the release. She said the Senate vote "is the first step toward taking elections back from big money and returning them to 'We, the people' with the principle 'One person, one vote.'"

The proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution would undo two Supreme Court decisions that removed limits on corporate and union giving as well as ceilings on individual donations to federal candidates and party committees.

Vote NO on 1 HQ opens

The Vote NO on One Tennessee (Vote NO on 1) campaign opened its headquarters in Nashville last week, according to a news release.

The statewide campaign opposes the proposed constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would give state politicians authority to regulate abortions. Opponents say the amendment would allow politicians to interfere in women's and families' most personal decisions. Supporters say a state Supreme Court decision in 2000 left Tennessee with broader abortion rights than are recognized federally.
