Motorcyclist hurt during Trail of Tears ride

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Authorities in Huntsville say a motorcycle rider was injured during an annual ride to commemorate the forced removal of the Cherokee people from the southeastern U.S.

Al.com reports the wreck happened during around 10 a.m. Saturday when a rider lost control of his bike and crashed on Interstate 565. Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. CEO Don Webster says the man was taken to Huntsville Hospital where he was listed in serious condition.

The Trail of Tears ride marks the forced removal by the federal government of thousands Indians across the South in 1838. They were relocated in what was then Indian Territory, now Oklahoma.
