Chattanooga: Man hit by car on Hixson Pike expected to live

A man hospitalized with serious head trauma after darting into traffic and being struck by a car Friday is expected to live, officials said.

Eric Painter was hit at 5431 Hixson Pike about 8:30 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Jerri Weary, Chattanooga police spokeswoman.

Painter is in stable condition, Weary said this morning.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Painter, Joyce Ashley, told police that she saw him running across the street and tried to avoid hitting him. Road evidence shows that Ashley swerved to avoid hitting Painter and ran up on the curb.

No charges are expected to be filed against Ashley in the accident, Wearey said.
