Braly: Fitzgerald's Casino and Hotel brings mixed reviews

So, I made my fourth trip to Tunica, Mississippi, recently to experience Fitzgerald's Casino and Hotel for the first time. It won't be the last, but on my first day, I thought it might be. We arrived midafternoon, got unpacked and settled into what was a nice room. Not the fanciest I've ever been in, but had most all the amenities one could want. I'm not a big-time gambler, but love to pay my respects to the penny machines, and the casino had an excellent selection of those. Some very new and exciting. The casino wasn't the largest I've ever been in, but it was fun and exciting. No complaints there. But when we got back to the room around 7 p.m. to order room service, we discovered that it wasn't offered on weeknights, only on weekends, we were told.

I've never been in a hotel this size with several restaurants from which to choose that didn't offer room service. The only restaurant I could get to-go food from was the snack bar, which was not serving the advertised special Reuben. Unfortunate. Don't know why they kept the sign up. Service was lousy and the wait staff was rude. The sliders that I ended up ordering were just edible, too. All in all, I wasn't impressed with the snack bar at "The Fitz."

However, the breakfast buffet we experienced both mornings was wonderful. And we went back on our second night and got a round of excellent Chinese fare from Chop Stix, also located in the Riverview Buffet.

Don B's Steakhouse is the premiere restaurant located at Fitzgerald's. The menu lmade my mouth water, but the prices dried it up quickly.

We'll go back to The Fitz, I'm sure. But knowing these things ahead of time - the room service and restaurant situation - would have made our first night a little less disappointing.
