KNOXVILLE — A teenager was recovering at the University of Tennessee Medical Center on Monday night after attempting to set himself on fire in a Fort Sanders parking lot, police said.

Officers and other emergency responders were called about 9:40 p.m. to the lot on the 2000 block of Clinch Avenue on the reported suicide attempt, according to Knoxville Police Department Sgt. Bryan Davis.

The 16-year-old boy had poured gasoline on himself and attempted to set himself on fire, Davis said. The boy’s parents managed to put the fire out before emergency crews arrived.
