A man was critically injured Thursday night when he lost control of his motorcycle on I-24 in Middle Tennessee. He has been identified by police as 28-year-old Pioquinto Gomez-Ruiz.

A preliminary investigation shows that Gomez-Ruiz, of Druid Drive, was riding a 2008 Kawasaki at a high rate of speed in a group of approximately 15 other motorcyclists at about 9:45 p.m., when he lost control of the Kawasaki and struck a median near Hickory Hollow Parkway in Antioch, police said.

Gomez-Ruiz, who police said did not have a motorcycle license, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he remained Friday in extremely critical condition.
